Located in the northeast of Cyprus and having a rectangular plan, Kyrenia Castle bears the architectural traces of many civilizations, the Byzantine, the Lusignans, a dynasty of French origin, and the Venetian, Ottoman and British, in order to dominate the port opening to the blue waters of the Mediterranean. . Although the exact construction date cannot be determined today, foundation ruins indicate that it was built by the Byzantines in the 7th century AD. Additions were made to the castle during the Lusignan period, and it took its final shape during the Venetian period. The majority of the castle was built by King John Dibelin between 1208 and 1211 AD. It was a place of rest for the Lusignan kings in times of peace and a place of refuge in times of war.........
